Yupp--that's my pt about the Stones; our little band had to do songs like that to continue to get bookings in the East Bay in 78 & 79. "Miss You" was the one that satisified everyone (re: disco sound), but they just couldn't bring themselves to do any BeeGees (in part because of the trouble with singing them).

I am glad you posted to support that contention bout the Stones as some have even told me yrs later it wasn't disco (but at the time, we certainly viewed as such). The Stones turned it around, IMHO, with SMUp a few yrs later...

Speaking of reggae, here's a TDIH:

The Dead in Jamaica. My recollection is that it struck me as a lot better than it's reputation, but haven't heard it in a while.

Speaking of which, Bob Marley T-shirts (and stickers on taxis and public buses) are HUGE where I live (e.g. Kathmandu, Nepal). And a couple weeks ago in a remote area, I was hanging out at the village school when some kids asked their teacher (a 20-ish woman from an indigenous tribe) if she knew any English songs ... and she regailed them with an a capella version of By the Rivers of Babylon!

Oh yeah--I knew that cause I do it with about 85% of posts (except my own...har, har). But, I thought it was "better" since it meant you independently fig'd it the same way as we did (re:Stones, etc.).
